7 marathons. 7 continents. 7 years.

I woke up this morning in my hotel room in Bellvue, Washington and looked out and could clearly see Mount Rainier – and I thought about summiting there in July 2007 and I could not have imagined moving to Seattle less than two years later.
It was an exciting and challenging first week in the new job. Started out by attending the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas where Microsoft unveiled a number of new solutions for media, entertainment and hosting companies. I got to see some of my new colleagues and teammates and get a first hand view of our products and solutions.
After flying to Seattle on Wednesday, I had my first two days in the office. My admin had set up my office perfectly with PC, printer and all of the necessary supplies laid out. Besides getting used to Vista and Office 2007 (my previous companies were always on older versions ), I have a new set of acronyms to learn.
As an example, many of us in Telecoms know what CPE is – Customer Premise Equipment. Though in MS it is Customer and Partner Experience (some might call it CSI – Customer Satisfaction Index). Every group has their own TLA or FLA such as SMSG, EPG etc., and executives are known by either their initials: KT for example or their alias (I am MitchL for example).
All in all, I am massively excited about the opportunity and challenges that we face, and the company is in a unique position in the market as companies evolve their networks and Software and Services become the norm.
It’s an exciting time to be here, in the shadow of the Cascades. The mountains have stood steadfast for thousands, if not millions of years, and continue to look down from their peaks on the humans that go about their business and endeavor to make the world a better place.
