No Pickles or Chilly Peppers allowed

As we are going through security in New Delhi airport for domestic flight to Mumbai – there is a massive sign before the x-ray machines.  I’m reading to avoid boredom and there are the usual not allowed items:

Guns of any kind.

Ammunition.

Swords (except those carried by Sikhs less than 6″)

And about 50 other items.

On the right hand side, I have to do a double take.

Because it says:

No Pickles or Chilly (sic) Peppers allowed.

SERIOUSLY!  You just can’t make this stuff up.

So what’s the deal with that I’m thinking?  Besides the obvious connotation of Peppers being cold (doesn’t anyone proofread these?!) – what would someone actually do with Pickles and Chilly Peppers on a plane?  Throw them and blind the flight attendants and pilots?  Cause massive gas attacks on board?  Launch infectious diseases?

I would have taken a picture, but it said no cameras allowed to be used in the airport.  And of course I’m thinking of the terrorists that bombed and killed hundreds here in Mumbai and wondering how they got all their weapons here.  I guess they avoided vegetables ….
